Well here is what I have been focused on lately. This is a 24"x48" painting I have been working on in my studio. For now I'll have it on display at the Sebastopol Center for the arts in Sebastopol CA.
This dairy belongs to Jack Dei of Sebastopol CA. Jack is one of many dairymen who are disappearing due to the changing times but for now I have a chance to capture these sights as they exist today. I see this view every day as I travel along High School Road and I'm blessed to live in such a beautiful and peaceful area of Sonoma County.

At the bigining of a painting I just want to get the general color and values established.

With some of the white canvas showing I can gauge my values of light to dark. I'm encouraged by the contrast knowing the white shapes of the cows will read well against the dark values.

All is coming together well and I'm happy to say that I can start finessing the color, values and other little details. I'm about half way complete with this painting.

Here I have darkened areas of the composition that had been pulling attention from my points of interest. Now I'm ready suggest the corrugated tin roof with the light diagonal lines.

After introducing all the minor details I'm able to breakup the flat shapes and now it appears that the background is receding from the foreground. Keep in mind that overlapping shapes will come forward.
For now I'll have it on display at the Sebastopol Center for the arts in Sebastopol California. In September this painting will be located at Carmel Fine Art Gallery located on 6th and Dolores Street in Carmel California.
